Election of 1956 Summary
The election in 1956 was basically a rematch of the one before. It featured Dwight Eisenhower from the Republicans and Adlai Stevenson from the Democratic party.
Eisenhower helped the economy recover and fulfilled his promise by bringing the American troops home from South Korea. Despite suffering a heart attack, he had a lot of momentum coming into this election.
The results in the 43rd presidential election showed that Eisenhower dominated with 457 electoral votes. Meanwhile, Adlai Stevenson only received 73 electoral votes.
