Downtown Detroit

Downtown Detroit is along the Detroit River and is the central business district of the city. It’s known for its tall buildings, including the Renaissance Center.

Campus Martius Park is here with an outdoor skating rink during winter. Finally, Ford Field and Comerica Park are where the Lions (football) and Tigers (baseball) play.

Lafayette Park

Lafayette Park is an architecturally significant neighborhood. Architects including Mies van der Rohe have designed several townhouses and high-rise apartments here. The area has green spaces and is close to the Dequindre Cut.

Midtown Detroit

Located north of downtown, Midtown is home of world-class museums, galleries, and universities. For example, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) includes works by Diego Rivera and Vincent van Gogh. It also features historic Fox Theatre, a venue for concerts and Broadway shows.

West Village

West Village is along the Detroit River and in the east side of Detroit. This is another community-focused neighborhood with lots of locally-owned shops.

Palmer Woods

Palmer Woods is an affluent neighborhood on the northwest side of Detroit. Palmer Park is a key feature of this neighborhood with nice walking trails and occasional community events. It’s also close to the Detroit Golf Club.

Corktown

Corktown is Detroit’s oldest neighborhood. It’s situated just west of downtown. A notable attraction in Corktown is the Michigan Central Station. This has become an iconic symbol of Detroit’s history and resilience.

Brush Park

Brush Park is located northeast of Downtown Detroit. One of its main attractions is the historic Ransom Gillis House, which showcases 19th-century Detroit life. Brush Park also is close to Little Caesars Arena (NHL Red Wings).

Belle Isle

Although technically an island, Belle Isle is a place that offers an escape from the city. This island park is located in the Detroit River and is accessible from the downtown area. The park also includes the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory with rare plants from around the world.
