Oakland Neighborhood Map
Downtown Oakland
The heart of the city is Downtown Oakland. Why come here? The Pacific Ocean, Old Oakland, historic architecture, and a lively atmosphere (just to name a few). It also has a piece of Lake Merritt to the northeast. One of my favorites is that just 10 minutes north you can find Pixar headquarters with the statue of the hopping desk lamp.
Chinatown
Oakland’s Chinatown is a good one. Of course, it has a plethora of authentic Asian cuisine. But you can also find colorful festivals that celebrate Chinese traditions. Remember there’s also the nearby San Francisco Chinatown (the oldest in North America).
Jack London Square
Fun fact, this neighborhood is named after the famous author Jack London. Jack London Square is along the waterfront. It’s a fun area with live music performances. I’ve also seen paddleboarding, kayaking, and boating on the Oakland Estuary. Come here to enjoy a relaxing place in Oakland.
Montclair Map
Montclair is a neighborhood tucked into the Oakland hills. It’s surrounded by beautiful parks and trails. For example, it has Joaquin Miller Park and Redwood Regional Park. Come here for views of the city and a piece of nature.
Rockridge Map
Rockridge is a stylish and affluent neighborhood. Its main thoroughfare is College Avenue with some of Oakland’s top restaurants. Another advantage is its proximity to UC Berkeley, situated to the north.
Merritt Neighborhood
One of the nicest features of Oakland is Lake Merritt. This neighborhood is focused on this central jewel of Oakland. It’s rare to find an urban lake. This neighborhood is surrounded by parks and gardens. The area is also home to the Grand Lake Farmers Market on weekends.
Temescal Map
Temescal is located in the northern part of Oakland. Telegraph Avenue on the east, is one of its main commercial corridors. It’s an artsy neighborhood, accessible to BART stations. Rockridge is to the north and Piedmont Avenue is to the west.
